Exploring RDS's OLED Display Solutions:

Innovation, Contrast, and Flexibility

In the dynamic landscape of display technologies, Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) panels have revolutionised user interfaces with their self-emissive pixels, delivering true blacks, infinite contrast ratios, and vibrant colours without the need for a backlight.

Ideal for applications in medical imaging, automotive dashboards, consumer wearables, and professional monitors, our OLED portfolio emphasises superior optical performance, energy efficiency, and seamless integration.

With in-house design expertise, we transform these panels into tailored solutions for demanding environments.

Wide Range of Sizes and Formats

Our OLED offering caters to diverse project scales, spanning from miniature modules for space-constrained devices to expansive screens for immersive viewing:

  • Ultra-compact: 0.96" to 2.42" (perfect for smartwatches, IoT sensors, and portable instruments, with resolutions like 128 x 64 or 96 x 16)
  • Small graphic: 0.91" to 3.12" (graphic modules supporting 128 x 64 up to 256 x 64 dots, suited for control panels and metering)
  • Character displays: From 0.56" (16 x 2 characters) to 5.0" (20 x 4 lines), for simple alphanumeric readouts in industrial and consumer electronics
  • Medium to large: 10" to 32" (including 21.6", 22", 27", and 32" models with 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 resolution at 200+ PPI, leveraging printed OLED technology for monitors and medical displays)

These panels support interfaces like SPI, I²C, and eDP, with brightness levels from 100 cd/m² for indoor use to 400+ cd/m² for brighter settings. Operating temperatures range from -40 °C to +85 °C, ensuring reliability in automotive, outdoor, and harsh industrial scenarios. High refresh rates (up to 120 Hz) and wide colour gamuts (100 % DCI-P3) make them standouts for dynamic content like video and AR/VR.

Shapes and Special Formats

We go beyond conventional rectangles to embrace OLED's inherent flexibility and innovation. Standard formats include square (e.g., 1.3" 128 x 128) and widescreen 16:9 ratios for modern aesthetics. However, the true versatility shines in specialised variants:

  • Flexible OLEDs (FOLEDs): Built on plastic or metal foil substrates, allowing bending, folding, or rolling - ideal for curved automotive HUDs, wearable bands, or rollable signage
  • Transparent OLEDs (TOLEDs): Up to 85 % transparency when off, enabling see-through displays for AR glasses, smart windows, or layered interfaces with 70-85% light transmission
  • Printed OLEDs: JOLED's inkjet-printed technology yields ultra-thin (under 0.1 mm) panels in custom sizes, supporting irregular shapes like circular or free-form designs for artistic installations or unique HMIs
  • Bar-type or stretched formats: For elongated applications such as digital signage strips or dashboard gauges

These formats offer near-infinite contrast (1,000,000:1), response times under 1 ms, and viewing angles exceeding 170°, outperforming LCDs in colour accuracy and power efficiency.

Add-Ons and Customisation Options

Our strength lies in elevating standard OLED panels to fully ruggedised, interactive systems via comprehensive enhancements, all handled in their ISO-certified facilities for rapid prototyping and production:

Touch Panels

Modern touch panel technology has evolved far beyond simple navigation, becoming the primary interface for everything from industrial machinery to medical devices. When selecting a touch solution, the choice usually depends on the environment, the required precision, and how the user will interact with the screen.

  • Projected Capacitive (PCAP):  Supports up to 10 simultaneous touch points, enabling complex gestures like pinch-to-zoom, rotation, and swiping.
  • Resistive Overlays: Durable for stylus or gloved operation in industrial settings
  • Integrated Controllers and Firmware: for gesture recognition or hover detection, compatible with Android, Linux, and Windows

Custom Cover Glass and Optical Enhancements

Beyond the internal display technology, the outer surface is what defines a product's aesthetics and field reliability. Custom cover glass and optical enhancements serve as a protective shield while optimising the visual performance of the display in challenging lighting conditions.

  • Strengthened glass (e.g., Gorilla Glass equivalents) from 0.7 mm to 6 mm thick, with anti-reflective, anti-fingerprint, or UV-resistant coatings
  • Optical bonding (using LOCA adhesives) to reduce glare, boost contrast, and enhance durability - crucial for flexible or transparent OLEDs
  • Silk-screened graphics, logos, or masked borders for branded, seamless front panels, including cut-outs for cameras or sensors

Metalwork and Mechanical Integration

For high-performance displays to thrive in real-world environments, they require a robust physical foundation. Mechanical integration ensures that the delicate electronics are protected from external stressors while maintaining the structural integrity required for long-term deployment. We offer a complete service:

  • Bespoke aluminium or stainless steel bezels, frames, and enclosures for EMI shielding and thermal management
  • IP65+ sealing for dust/water resistance, with VESA mounting options for wall or desk installations
  • Custom housings supporting flexible mounting, such as curved brackets for FOLEDs or slim profiles for TOLED overlays

Additional Enhancements

  • High-efficiency drivers and power management for extended battery life in portable devices
  • Anti-bacterial surfaces for medical applications or dimmable WOLED backlighting for ambient lighting integration
  • Full assemblies with cabling, connectors, and embedded processing boards for turnkey solutions

Partnering with innovators and maintaining stock from top manufacturers, we ensure long-term availability and traceability, even as technologies evolve.

Whether it's a 1.3" flexible OLED for a fitness tracker, a transparent 21.6" panel for AR prototyping, or a 32" 4K printed OLED with PCAP touch and rugged enclosure for medical diagnostics, we deliver OLED solutions that prioritise performance, adaptability, and precision. Our end-to-end support accelerates time-to-market, making advanced displays accessible for ground breaking designs.
