RDS Expands Rugged Display and Embedded Solutions for Defence and Industrial Markets

31 July, 2026

Review Display Systems is strengthening its portfolio of high-performance technology designed for the most demanding operating environments, serving both the defence sector and industrial applications.

The UK specialist, with more than four decades of experience, supplies ruggedised displays, advanced touch interfaces, embedded computing platforms and complete system solutions. These are engineered to withstand extreme temperatures, shock, vibration, dust, moisture and electromagnetic interference while delivering the clarity and reliability required for mission-critical or production-critical use.

In the defence market, RDS provides high-brightness TFT LCDs, micro-OLEDs and near-eye displays offering sunlight readability of up to 3,000 nits, optical bonding for improved contrast and impact resistance, and compatibility with night-vision systems. Projected capacitive touchscreens support glove operation, wet conditions and multi-touch gestures. Many solutions meet or support MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 standards, together with IP65 or IP68 sealing. High-reliability embedded systems using Intel or ARM processors operate across wide temperature ranges, typically from –40°C to +85°C, and incorporate security features such as secure boot and encryption. Secure IoT platforms and AI capabilities further enable asset tracking, situational awareness, predictive maintenance and autonomous functions for vehicles, avionics, unmanned systems and command-and-control applications.

For industrial customers, the same core technologies are adapted for factory automation, process control, outdoor equipment and logistics environments. Optically bonded, high-brightness displays and glove-compatible touch interfaces maintain performance in dusty, wet or high-vibration settings. Industrial-grade motherboards, single-board computers and Box PCs support real-time control, machine vision and edge AI for quality inspection, predictive maintenance and smarter manufacturing processes. Custom enclosures, cabling and turnkey human-machine interfaces complete the range.

Across both sectors, RDS emphasises end-to-end engineering support. This includes in-house design and rapid prototyping, environmental testing, scalable manufacturing and long-term obsolescence management, often providing 10 to 15 years of component and system support. The majority of solutions are tailored to specific customer requirements.

Daniel Burke, Marketing manager for RDS said, “The combination of proven rugged hardware and full lifecycle expertise helps us provide improve operator interfaces, increase system uptime and reduce total cost of ownership in environments where standard commercial technology cannot be relied upon.”

RDS continues to work with partners in defence, aerospace, manufacturing and related industries to deliver reliable, future-ready systems from its UK, European and North American facilities.
