AMT analog resistive touch screens are available in 4-wire, 5-wire and 8-wire designed technologies. Each technology has its own advantages, and is used depending on the products and specifications requested.

4-Wire Touch Screen

AMT's 4-wire touch screen provides full functionality in a low-profile unit. It is best suited for smaller screen size, such as handheld consumer products or portable test equipments, where compact size and low power draw is a priority. The 4-wire touch screens also provide high clarity and durability.

4-wire touch screen technology uses two layers to create X- and Y-axis measurements. The flexible top coversheet acts as a uniform voltage gradient, and the bottom substrate acts as the voltage probe. It excels at small size touch screen applications.

5-Wire Touch Screen

AMT's 5-wire touch screen provides high clarity, exceptional durability and reliability, and is best suited for screen size 10 inch and larger . The 5-wire design is an ideal solution for repetitive applications such as point-of-sale and restaurant systems.

5-wire touch screen technology uses the bottom substrate for both X-axis and Y-axis dimensions. The flexible coversheet acts as a voltage-measuring probe or current-measuring probe only.

8-Wire Touch Screen

AMT's 8-wire touch screen is the standard for rugged environments, where the touch screen unit is larger than 10 inches. The advantage of the 8-wire touch screen is its ability to withstand extreme heat, humidity, airborne contaminants; it is also immune to voltage and resistance fluctuation. The 8-wire design is recommended for factory machinery, industrial applications, voting machines, KIOSK and other large size electronic applications.

8-wire touch screen technology is similar to 4-wire technology, with each edge providing one more sensing line as a stable voltage gradient for the touch screen controller, and the other axis performing an accurate voltage probe.
