All the staff at RDS would like to express our deep concern for all of our colleagues, friends and their families currently affected by the tragic situation in Japan, our thoughts and best wishes are with you all at this time.
RDS is working with all its suppliers to try to understand the implications and effects of the disaster on their supply and manufacturing capabilities. As soon as we have any information we will update this page with the information that we have. If you have any concerns with your individual situation then please contact Graham Smith on 01959 563345 or email GrahamSmith@review-displays.co.uk and we will do our utmost to get the latest specific information.
Again RDS will update this information page as soon as we have any further information.
Renesas (NEC):
The Renesas factory that manufactures all NEC TFT products is located in Akita. This is located in Northern Japan but on the west coast and so has not suffered any damage due to the Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami disaster. However, the Akita factory is currently shut down. The factory was shut down as a standard process when the earthquake struck Japan. This is done to help avoid any damage to the equipment. Since the controlled shut down, the Akita factory has been unable to re-start due to the limited electricity supply. This appears to be an ongoing problem and to date nobody has an answer on when they expect this situation to improve.
In conjunction with the electricity supply issues, the Akita factory is contacting each and every one of their raw material suppliers to better understand their ability to supply the factory. RDS will be in touch with NEC on a daily basis asking for updated information. As soon as we have further information from NEC, we will update you all.
Apex Material Technology (AMT):
AMT manufacture Resistive Touch Screens in Taiwan and hence are not directly affected by the earthquake. However today we have been informed that some of the Films used in the construction of their Resistive Touch Screens are supplied by companies located in Japan. Again, were told that there is no damage to the factory creating these films. The Japanese Film manufacturer has to better understand the ability of its raw material suppliers to supply their factory with the material required to produce. Again, at point of production (keeping in mind electricity supply issue's) can they transport it domestically to AMT.
