Light Blue Optic's revolutionary Holographic laser projection products are set to change the way we think about how we configure the Human Machine Interface.

Founded in 2004 as a spin out from Cambridge University, and after a 6 year, 26 million USD investment and development program the first of the commercial range of products are just being released with a commited development path for the future.

Holographic laser projection utillises a small red, green and blue laser, which fires at a proprietary FLOCS microdisplay, the display is controlled by LBO's own ASIC device which controls a range of diffraction images on the display and it is this that steers the laser light to form the high resolution, wide throw angle, focus free image.

Products currently available are, Light Work, which is a compact basic monitor and Light Touch, which is a integrated system product with a projected IR touch capability replecating a complete HMI system.

New Touch Screen Technology for AMT

Review Display Systems have recently introduced the rugged new Glass-Film-Glass (GFG) touch technology from AMT. This new technology offers users a strong Glass surface layer that will work with a gloved hand.

AMT have developed this technology by utilising there expertise in the manufacture of standard 4,5 and 8 wire touch screens, and added a glass layer over the film surface. This provides an economical solution for users who were against the use of resistive technology because of the easily damaged top surface.

The GFG technology screen retains the functions and features of the standard resistive touch screen such as sensitivity to inputs from gloved operators or stylus/ non finger inputs and also has the added benefit of an increase in the operational temperature range from -30 C to + 80 C making it ideal for industrial applications in extreme conditions.

GFG panels have an 81% light transmission rate and a surface hardness of greater than Mohs 5 which reduces the need for further protective layers.

Screen sizes can be from 3 inch to 19 inch and durability of 10 Million touches for 4 or 8 wire based products or 36 Million touches for 5 wire solutions can be achieved.

RDS have recently introduced a new 2.3 inch round active matrix TFT panel idea for instrumentation and automation applications that need to replace a dial type display.

The display active area equates to a dial diameter of 58mm and the display incorporates the latest anti-glare and wide-view film technology.

The module design is a compact 75x 75 x 7.6mm making the unit easily stackable and features a high bright screen at 1000cd/m and a contrast ratio of 400:1. The viewing angle is 70 degrees North, East and West and 50 degrees South.

The natural screen resolution is 240x240 dots with a pixel pitch of .24mm allowing good graphic representation on the screen of dials and bar graphs.

The whole module is designed to cope with wide temperature operation from -40 degrees to + 85 degrees Centigrade and the electrical interface has been designed to run from a 16 bit micro.

A New Discovery, the "compact" Atom

Review Display Systems Ltd have recently introduced a new low power, compact single board computer ideal for applications where space and power are at a premium.

The compact board design measures only 102mm x 146mm and will fit behind a standard 5.7 inch format display. By utilising Intel's new Atom processor power consumption is reduced to a typical 14 Watts, making the board ideal for portable or mobile applications.

The PEB-2737 has a wealth of on-board features including a 24bit LVDS interface to directly drive a wide range of TFT panels. Also included is one Gigabit Ethernet support, a type II compact flash socket, seven USB connections as well as 2x SATA and 1X EIDE connections and two RS232 ports.

Two processor options are available offering either 1.1Ghz or 1.6 Ghz with a FSB of 400/533 Mhz. The board will support up to 2GB of system memory and features the Intel system control Hub US15W.

The compact size and low power requirements also mean that the board is ideal for applications that are sealed or have a serious space problem. The lack of heat generated reduces the need for expensive thermal management components and the possible compromise to sealing the system.

Review Display Systems Ltd have recently introduced Aaeon, all new Gene-9455 Atom based compact single board computer solution ideal for portable industrial applications.

Aaeon , one of Taiwan’s leading industrial single board computer manufacturers has launched a Atom based version of its popular Gene series of compact 3.5 inch single board computers. Based on the Industrial Intel N270 1.6Ghz CPU with a front side bus of 533MHz. The board also uses the Intel 945GSE Graphics chip and will support up to 2GB of DDR2 memory at 400 or 500 MHz.

The board features two Intel 82574L Ethernet controllers providing communication to multiple gigabit networks enabling use in high bandwidth network communication applications.

Additional features include PCI expansion, SATA and IDE support, four USB 2.0 ports and 4 COM ports, LVDS LCD connectivity touch screen controller and wide DC voltage input range ideal for mobile applications.

The compact format and packed feature set makes this board suitable for any application where space limited. RDS can also supply a range of LCD displays and touch screen solutions.

Designed specifically for industrial applications this new board from Review Display Systems Ltd includes a feature set that sets it apart from the competition.

Manufactured in one of Europe's largest computer factories by Fujitsu Siemens the D2703-S is a mini-ITX format design built with long life components for the industrial sector.

Designed around the AMD/ATI M690E chipset the board supports all of AMD's mobile Sempron, Athion and Turion range of processors. With integrated LVDS support for flat panels the user can configure the standard BIOS to run a range of standard TFT LCD screens making it ideal for HMI style systems.

Review Display Systems have recently increased their range of compact TFT panels with the introduction of a 2.2 inch QVGA resolution panel.

The PTO02232 is a low power, compact format display measures 49mmx41mmx2.6mm and is ideal for handheld battery powered applications. Power consumption for the 320(RGB)x240 pixel display including back light is 315mw giving an overall screen brightness of 185cd/m..

The module features a viewing angle of 130degrees in both the vertical and horizontal plane and the display is transmissive TFT technology with white LED backlighting.

The interface is either system parallel or serial and the unit has an operating temperature range of -20 to +70 degrees centigrade.

The module design can be customised around the standard TFT substrate allowing design flexibility when incorporating the panel into a product.

Review Display Systems continues to increase there range of Small TFT panels with the addition of the 4.3 inch, PT0434827-A001, module.

This panel features a screen resolution of 480RGB x 272 pixels in a compact package size of just 105.5mm x 67.2mm x 5mm. The high contrast amorphous TFT panel is transmissive and uses LED backlight technology, this results in a contrast ratio of 400:1 and a screen brightness of 300cd/m making the unit ideal for many outdoor, battery driven applications.
The panel also features an integrated resistive touch screen with a surface hardness of 3H and integrated panel voltage generation to help reduce the design costs of your overall system.

RDS can provide a dedicated application solution through the integration of this panel and a compact x-scale based motherboard allowing users to reduce the time to market for an application.
