Matrix Touch Screens

AMT matrix touch screens are perfect for any application requiring fixed button size. Matrix screens never need to be re-calibrated, and feature patterning capable of accommodating any button size. Matrix touch screens provide light transmission properties of 80% or higher.

Analog Touch Screens
Our analog touch screens, which includes resistive, low reflective and capacitive technologies, and with light transmission of over 80 % or more, are adaptable to nearly any application, including industrial automation, instrumentation, food processing, handheld computing, POS, and many others.

Construction
AMT offers customers a choice of construction types, 3-layer and 5-layer.
3-Layer Construction
3-Layer touch screens from AMT, the popular choice for most applications, comprise a film-on-glass construction, featuring a single circuit layer bonded to the scratch-resistant surface layer, over a layer of spacer adhesive, over a bottom layer of glass integrating the all-important conductive coating.

Despite the presence of necessary technologies, 3-layer touch screens are thin, versatile, and robust, an industry standard in normal environments.

5-Layer Construction
AMT's 5-layer construction, of film on acrylic or polycarbonate, provides two layers of circuitry with the spacer adhesive sandwiched between, with the bottom layer optically bonded to the backing panel.

5-layer touch screens are considerably sturdier, and thus better suited to applications that sustain rigorous daily use.
AMT manufactures 5-layer types only as OEM special orders, based on individual customer needs and environmental requirements.

4-, 5-, and 8-Wire Technology

Resistive analog touch screens are normally available with 4-, 5-, and 8-wire circuitry. There are standard resistive and low reflective touch sreens. And capacitive touch screens only can be produced in 5- wire.

4-Wire Touch Screen
4-wire touch screens utilize four edges of the screen presenting X+, X-, Y+ and Y- lead outs. When contact is made, the X leads read the voltage shift on the Y-axis, representing a Y location, followed by a Y leads read-out. The pair of X/Y read-outs are then read by the controller and converted into the correct coordinates. 4-wire circuitry is best suited to screens smaller than 10.4".

5-Wire Touch Screen
5-wire touch screens can be produced in screen sizes from 2" to 22". Resistive touch screens are suitable in many different systems and different environment.

In the 5-wire touch screen, the top layer is a sense layer while the main circuitry is located in the layer beneath. When the screen is touched, the top layer senses first the X-then Y-axes and the location is sent to the screen controller.

8-Wire Touch Screen
8-wire touch screens are suitable applied to screens with larger sizes. The function is much like that of 4-wire circuitry; with the major difference that 8-wire offers 4 additional screen read-outs and circuit protection. These additional read-outs can be used to further adjust possible distortion on the corner or edge of a larger screen. Sometimes these are called the delta positions of the sensed location. 8-wire circuit structure is well suited for screens from 6" to 22".

Low Reflective (LR)

Conventional LCD panels typically produce a maximum brightness (white light) of 200–350 nits, insufficient luminance in environments exposed to high ambient lighting or direct sunlight. Further application of standard resistive touch screen capability can render the display unreadable.

Research shows that luminance exceeding 200fL (686 nits) is required for sunlight readability. The addition of a new range of low cost high brightness and sunlight readable screens is a significant step forward, but when combined with AMT's core low reflective touch screen technology they extend the possibilities well beyond usual applications.

AMT technology effectively laminates polarizer film onto the touch screen, greatly enhancing LCD display images by increasing contrast and color saturation and eliminating reflection from environmental light.

Applicable use includes:
· Handheld products
· Dedicated purpose notebook PCs
· Industrial devices
· Outdoor applications or mobile environments

Polarizer film and Quarder wave retarder film attached to the surface of the touch screen allows rotation of the polarizer to achieve maximum effect, making it possible to move the LCD image to the surface of the touch screen.
LN (Linear Polarizer) Series Low Reflective Touch Screens:

AMT’s linear polarizer(LN) touch screens are ideal for medium or small size applications less than 8.4” for high luminance environments, and applications requiring antiglare or clear surface finishes.

LN Low Refelective touch screens provide:
·Light transmission exceeding 77%
·Light reflection rate lower than 6%
·Touch sensor is in high reliability
·FPC tail design

LN touch screens utilize a polarizer to reduce the reflective rate.

Glass - Film - Glass (GFG)

AMT values its customers and listen to their needs and the GFG or Glass-film-Glass touch screen is our response to customers’ request for a resistive touch screen that is scratch proof and easy to clean.

The standard traditional type of resistive touch screen, which has been in the market for 20 years, has a top surface of polyester film which is easily scratched AMT changed the top surface to a thin glass and calls it GFG (Glass-Film-Glass) touch screen.
The top thin glass has a hardness of Mohs 5 and above; and a thickness of 0.2 mm or less in order to meet the same light activation force of the standard type of resistive touch screen. GFG touch screen with its distinctive features of anti scratch, chemical resistant and simple and easy cleaning maintenance is certainly the best solution for
- industrial applications
- medical devices
- food equipment industry
- harsh and rugged environment such as gas station, chemical factories, etc.
- others such as marine applications

Wider Operating Temperature Range in AMT Touch Panel
AMT has established an excellent reputation in it continuous development of new touch technologies; and is well recognized as the leader in touch solution by high standard quality demanding industries. There isnow an increasing demand for outdoor applications and end-products are continuously improved and upgraded, LCD’s operating temperature range is continuously expanded; and as such, its bundled touch panels are expected to have similarly extended range of operating temperature.
The specifications of both the operating and storage temperatures of a touch panel depend largely on the raw materials used, its designs and manufacturing process. AMT offers more than 50 numbers of standard parts resistive touch panel, customers can avail of these parts NRE cost-free. Because of the market demands for wide temperature range on many products, AMT had its resistive touch panel standard parts put into tests and validations; and we are proud to let you know that our materials and the touch panels passed all the various tests we made. We hereby announced AMT’s 4-,5-,8-wire film on glass resistive touch panel’s operating temperature range is now expanded to -20C +70C from its previous range of -10C ~ +60C; and its storage temperature is -40C +80C. This new expanded temperature range surpassed the standards of many other touch screen brands; AMT is always committed to offer outstanding products to its customers.
The other touch technologies such as AMT LR (Low Reflective) touch screen
has an operating temperature of -10C ~ +60C and storage temperature of -40C ~ +80C and AMT GFG (Glass-Film-Glass) touch screen which has an operating temperature of -30C +80C and storage temperature of -40C to +90C.
Due to differences in designs and materials used, the operating temperature range of each film-on-glass resistive touch panel varies. And after undergoing tests and validations, we confirm AMT’s touch panels can be used under very high temperature environment for 24 hours with no problem.

AMT Touch Screen Tail Design
AMT touch screen tail design has 3 types and these are:
1. The integral tail design is an extension of the ITO film of the touch screen.
2. The FPC tail design, the most popular one among the AMT tail designs, is a flexible printed circuit with copper as conductive material, its connector insertion times (for a ZIF type connector) is higher than the other tail types, it also has a good bend radius.
3. The HSC tail or heat-sealed circuit tail is of mylar material with printed silver trace on it, connected to the touch screen. AMT normally use this tail for the many wires design of matrix type touch screen.
